[PHP-DEV] PHP 7.2 Release Managers
March 28, 2017 05:00PM
Evening all,

With the first alpha of 7.2 due in early June, we think it's time to start
the process of finding and electing release managers for the next minor
release of PHP.

We are looking for two souls to take on this role. Whomsoever is elected
will be guided and helped by Davey and I, until they are comfortable, or
correcting Davey and I, whichever comes first.

Candidates should have a reasonable knowledge of internals (without
necessarily being a C guru), be confident about merging pull requests
without breaking backward compatibility, doing triage for bugs, liaising
with previous release managers, and generally getting the branch in good
shape, as these are among the activities you will be undertaking as release
manager.

Please put your name forward here if you wish to be considered a candidate.

Cheers
Joe

I keep meaning to have a go at this, and with such inspiring mentors
at the ready, there's really no better time than now.

As a reminder, this thread is just for folks to throw their hat in the
ring. There will be a formal vote on the wiki to pick the actual RM
(assuming anyone else volunteers!).

P.S.

After some time thinking about this,
I choose to apply to the PHP 7.2 RM role.

Thanks Remi!

As the Release Process RFC requires two RMs[1], are you and Sara willing to
collaborate as a team for 7.2? If not, you will each have to find a second
team-mate :)

+1 for both of you, and personally I prefer to have 2 new RMs in addition
to the previous RM(s) mentoring.

Afternoon Patrick,

Are you volunteering ?

It's been two weeks today since I asked for volunteers, and since I don't
plan on dragging anyone through the isles kicking and screaming, the call
to action will close today.

What happens next depends on what Patrick meant in his last communication.

Cheers
Joe

Evening internals,

Since we have our two volunteers, there would appear to be no point in
holding a vote.

We should move forward now with Sara and Remi as the release managers for
7.2.

Let me be the first to congratulate them: congrats you two.

Shoot Davey and I an email with your contact information, skype, gmail,
whatever you like for communications.

Thanks everyone for the +1s, and other input.

Cheers
Joe
